Fine Handmade Bows
A large selection of bows is held in stock from entry level up to professional level. Fine master bows bought and sold. In stock are examples by Hill, Voirin, Sartory, and other makers . The stock is constantly revolving. Many modern makers, Jacques Poullot of France ( UK agents), Ulf Johansson of Sweden (UK Agents), and from the UK, Howard Green , Claudio Righetti of Italy, to name but a few, and of course the fine bows from Pierre Guillaume of Brussels- all are represented in the studio.
Ulf Johansson - this master bow maker from Sweden is now represented in the U.K. by SoundPost- we stock his fine bows, and also his 'Atelier' bows by Eric Fournier of France. All available for trial, ( see terms and conditions further down this page). The bows are in very limited supply, and we invite you to visit his website for further info, linked here: Ulf Johansson. Sven-Erik Berg: We will be holding in stock bows from this fine Swedish master bowmaker- Enquire. We are the only UK agents for his work.
Armin Seebass : Armin is a master maker,from Finland, now represented in the UK by SoundPost-heavily influenced by the old master French makers. Examples now in stock, visit his website here.

Student Bows
SoundPost carries a range of other bows from various makers - In stock are bows from Finkel, Hartmut Knoll, Dorfler, Dolling, Schicker, Jens Paulus, Seifert, Ary of France, and others, as well as entry-level children's bows.
Col Legno- in stock now the budget range of carbon bows from Col Legno- small sizes up to full size, for violin and cello. Prices range between £60 and £110- excl postage. No 'trial' period available for these bows.
Arcos and Cirillo Bows from Brazil
Handmade in Brazil, firms of bowmakers who actively support the conservation and regeneration of pernambuco wood in Brazil, (See 'The Strad' issue October 2002 for article about this topic) These bows represent superb value for money, and each one is selected by SoundPost for quality, and playablity Nickel and silver mounted bows in stock, round and octagonal sticks, a range to choose from, all sizes, from £190. ( A selection can be sent out 'on approval', subject to conditions.)
Maison Bernard
Nickel mounted student bows, handmade in Brussels, with either round and octagonal sticks, all sizes. From £250. ( A selection can be sent on on approval, subject to conditions).

Bow Rehairs- As well as bow rehairs we also undertake repairs. A same-day service is often available, by arrangement.
Bow Hair for Sale

  • A fine and rare old Cello bow, made by W E Hill and Sons, stamped 'H & S', silver mounted, weight 78.2 gms, in good original condition- Strong stick, minor wear marks as appropriate to bow of this age, new hair and grip, makers mark on silver face feint-- appears to be JC Retford's mark. A 'player's' bow - full description and detailed photos can be supplied on request. Guaranteed against defects, and guaranteed genuine. £3350.
  • A fine and rare old Cello bow, made by W E Hill and Sons, stamped 'Hill', silver mounted, weight 80 gms, in very good mainly original condition- Strong stick, minor wear marks as appropriate to bow of this age, new hair and grip, but no makers mark on silver face which has been expertly replaced by Hills themselves.
